Resumen

Building on Brousseau’s Theory of Didactic Situations and Radford’s Theory of Objectification, we explore the role of risk within a mathematical community of practice and examine how risk aversion affects the learning process. We then introduce the idea of “attempt” as a particular type of risk undertaken in the mathematics classroom.
