REFLEXIONES SOBRE ORGANISMOS TRANSGÉNICOS Y SUS IMPLICACIONES BIOÉTICAS

Resumen

La Bioética o Etica para la vida (Potter 1970), propone orientaciones que permiten armonizar los adelantos en la Ciencia y Tecnología con el respeto a la dignidad humana y el ambiente. Hoy en día más que nunca es necesaria la acción de esta nueva disciplina debido a los adelantos científicos que ocurren, en particular con la biotecnología y el desarrollo de la ingeniería genética. Los riesgos confirmados o posibles han despertado una gran incertidumbre respecto a si los beneficios prometidos justifican los riesgos. Ante esta polémica, la bioética recurre al principio de precaución, asegurándose así un mínimo de seguridad sobre una duda razonable; sin embargo, la bioética no sólo debe tomar en cuenta los factores de salud y ambiente, sino muchos otros efectos implícitos en la producción de los OGM, como lo son, el monopolio de semillas, costo para el agricultor y otros factores que no aseguran que realmente estas biotecnologías puedan beneficiar a la gran masa de seres humanos que sufren hambre en el mundo. Esto debe ser del conocimiento del hombre cotidiano, la incorporación de discusiones bioéticas en los medios de comunicación y en los ambientes educativos permitirá que la sociedad forme opiniones sustentadas que apunten al logro de acuerdos donde la seguridad del ser humano y la equidad social prevalezcan sobre los intereses de grupos económicos y políticos. Nowadays, more than ever the actio of this new discipline is necessary due to the scientific advances that occur,particularly with biotechnology and the development of genetic engineering. The confirmed or possible risks have awaken a great uncertainty regarding to whether if the promised benefits justify the risks. In the presence of this controversy, bioethics resort to the principle of precaution, assuring itself in this manner a minimum of security over a reasonable doubt; nevertheless, bioethics should not only take into account the health and environment factors, but a lot of other implicit effects in the production of GMO, such as, the monopoly of seeds, costs for the farmer and other factors that do not assure that these biotechnologies really can benefit the great mass of human beings that are suffering hunger in the world. This should be of the everyday man's knowledge, the incorporation of bioethics discussions into the means of communication and into the educational atmospheres will allow the society to form sustained opinions that aim in accomplishing agreements where the human being's security and social equity prevail over interests of economical and political groups.Key Words: Transgenic.
